Lenka – Historical Cultural Monuments and Hotels

Lenka is located in the eastern part of the Rimavská Sobota Basin at the foot of the Bodva Hills. The town combines this clearly defined geographical setting with a remarkable succession of historical evidence: the first written mention dates from 1323, several buildings are protected monuments, and two distinctive names are associated with Lenka: Hrad Szilárd and the Reformed Tolerance Church.

History

The written history begins in 1323. Lenka’s first mention reads “zem Nenke”. In later records, the town appears under additional name forms: “Lynthe” is recorded for 1386, while the names “Nenyke” and “Nenyenke” are recorded for 1427. This sequence shows that Lenka does not appear under just one spelling in the historical records. The forms assigned to specific dates are concrete traces of the names under which the town was mentioned in the sources.

Culture

Among Lenka’s most important historical buildings is the Reformed Tolerance Church from 1786, which is considered the town’s most important landmark. The Reformed church is a single-nave Classicist Tolerance building from the same year. Its architectural form includes a segmental termination and an attached tower.

Another central part of the local monument inventory is Hrad Szilárd. The two-storey building was originally Baroque and has a T-shaped floor plan and a mansard roof. Hrad Szilárd is considered Lenka’s oldest and most important monument. In addition, the rear part of the manor house contains a manorial granary. The manor house and granary in Lenka are protected monuments; their protection number is ÚZPF 10978/1-2.

Community

At the centre of Lenka is a well-maintained park primarily intended for communal use by children and young people. A traditionally organised event is also part of local life: Lenka hosts the cooking competition “Súťaž vo varení”.
