Radnovce – Cultural History Between Manor House, Church and Literature

Radnovce has a cultural history that can be traced through its buildings, memorial sites, and local events. The individual points of interest range from the early settlement of the cadastral area to memorial sites and village days in the more recent past.

Culture and History

The oldest sight in Radnovce is the Neoclassical manor house next to the Reformed Church. It dates from the first half of the 19th century and was later also used as a rectory. The Reformed Church of Radnovce was built in 1875 and restored in 1895 in an eclectic pseudo-Romanesque-Gothic style. It is in good condition and continues to serve its religious purpose.

Pósa Lajos, who was born in Radnovce, was a writer, journalist and editor, as well as one of the founders of modern Hungarian children's literature. His monument in Radnovce was unveiled on July 1, 1934, as part of a nationwide celebration before a large audience in front of the school. On Pósa Lajos's birthday, the local community regularly lays wreaths at his monument.

The poet Radnóti Miklós visited Radnovce in 1941 and derived his literary name from the settlement. The memorial plaque for Radnóti Miklós is located on the wall of the school next to the main road in the center of Radnovce; it is present, well maintained, and dates from 2004.

The oldest documented settlement in the cadastral area of Radnovce dates back to the Late Bronze Age. In the regional surroundings of Radnovce, the Gemersko-rimavský circuit of the Gothic Road was developed as a tourism product connecting regional cultural monuments along a route.

Local Life

Village days were held in Radnovce under the names Falunap and Deň obce in 2015, 2016, 2017, and 2019. These events complement the permanently visible architectural and memorial sites with documented dates from local community life.
