Teplý Vrch – Hotels between the Reservoir, Nature and Culture

Teplý Vrch represents the connection between a reservoir, protected natural areas and traces of cultural history. The Teplý Vrch Reservoir offers opportunities for water sports. The Ormet facility is located on the sunny side of the Teplý Vrch Reservoir. Waterfowl can be observed from a wooden observation point at the reservoir.

Nature

At Hikóriový porast, 50 hickory trees from five species were planted at the end of the 19th century: Carya ovata, Carya glabra, Carya lacinosa, Carya alba and Carya cordiformis. The trees acclimatized well to the local conditions and regenerate naturally. The northeastern edge of the protected Hikóriový porast area lies in the immediate vicinity of the Teplý Vrch Reservoir.

The Drienčanský kras educational trail begins in Teplý Vrch, is 7.5 km long in total and passes through the protected Hikóriový porast area. It includes 15 stations with information boards about the characteristic natural features of the karst. Another route, the Zvernica Teplý Vrch educational trail, provides information about the history of Slovakia’s oldest game reserve, the keeping of fallow deer and mouflons, and the flora and fauna of the Teplý Vrch game reserve. It is a self-guided walking route focusing on hunting, natural history and historical topics.

A prior arrangement is required to visit the Zvernica Teplý Vrch educational trail; it is not open to the public during the winter months. The trail begins and ends at the Lujza cabin in the game reserve. From an observation tower, visitors can observe live mouflons and fallow deer under the protection of the foresters.

Culture

The Evangelical church in Teplý Vrch is a Neoclassical building with Baroque elements dating from 1827. The altar was erected around 1640 in the traditional Mannerist style of Protestant altars. It comes from an earlier wooden church mentioned in 1754. In the Central Register of the Slovak Monument Fund, the Evangelical church is listed under number 1 028/1.

The Gothic Route includes part of the Gemer-Rimava circuit and passes through the municipalities of Kraskovo and Kyjatice in the Teplý Vrch microregion. The creative workshops “Muzičky a Malí tanečníci” are also taking place again and have a tradition spanning more than 25 years.
