Lipovec: Landscape, Cycling Routes and Protestant Church

Landscape at the Lookout Point

Lipovec is located in the southeastern part of the Slovak Ore Mountains, between the Blh Valley and the valley of the Drienok stream. The lookout point is situated on the outskirts of the village and forms a clear transition there between the built-up area and the surrounding landscape. From this point, there is a view of Kráľova hoľa.

Cycling Route and Access

For cyclists, a 48-kilometre route leads from Rimavská Sobota via Padarovce and Teplý Vrch to Lipovec and onward to the lookout point. The Teplý Vrch–Potok–Slizké cycling route also passes through Lipovec. Access to the lookout point leads through Slizké via the blue cycling route No. 2564. Teplý Vrch is considered the recommended starting point for the route to the Lipovec lookout point. The lookout point can be reached by car or bicycle.

Teplý Vrch is therefore both part of the longer connection from Rimavská Sobota to Lipovec and the aforementioned starting point for the route to the lookout point. Slizké appears in two route connections: the village lies on the Teplý Vrch–Potok–Slizké cycling route and on the access route via the blue cycling route No. When planning a cycling tour, the 48-kilometre distance between Rimavská Sobota and the lookout point can be taken into account for the longer route; for the journey, current route conditions and, where applicable, traffic conditions should also be checked.

Panorama Board and Hiking

A panorama board with descriptions stands at the lookout point. It is part of the facilities at the same station from which Kráľova hoľa can also be seen. When planning a visit, the panorama board can be considered a separate item on the itinerary, while the distant view provides the landscape context of the lookout point.

There are opportunities for hiking around Lipovec. The hiking opportunities are in the vicinity of the village, while the lookout point itself is on the outskirts. Current trail conditions should be checked before departure, as practical planning depends on the chosen route and the respective starting point.

History and Wax Processing

Lipovec was first mentioned in writing in 1413. The historic appearance of the village also includes the former processing of wax: the wax formerly sold was pressed into záboje, which have survived to this day. The surviving záboje thus connect a specific craft tradition with the early written mention of the village.

Protestant Church

The Protestant Church of Lipovec was built between 1788 and 1793. It has a wooden Protestant gallery on three sides. The organ has a Rococo case dating from the late 18th century. Thus, the building brings together its construction period, the three-sided gallery and a surviving organ case from the same era. Those interested in culture will find both a historic construction date and specific furnishings at the church; current opening hours can be checked before travelling for a visit.
