Nature

The Hradište nature reserve is located in the cadastral area of the municipality of Kováčovce. Its protected features include Pannonian grassland and herbaceous communities on loess. The area was designated in 1999 to protect several thermophilic, steppe-related, protected and endangered plant and animal species. The protected and endangered species found there include the bladder senna (Colutea arborescens), yellow beard grass (Chrysopogon gryllus), Austrian flax (Linum austriacum), the sand lizard (Lacerta agilis), the European green lizard (Lacerta viridis) and the praying mantis (Mantis religiosa).

Culture

Kováčovce is home to a Rococo-Classical manor house from the 18th century, which was remodelled in the 19th and 20th centuries. The Church of the Blessed Mother depicts the Nativity of the Virgin Mary; the child is surrounded by Saint Anne and Joachim and greeted by angels. A memorial plaque dedicated to Fraňo Kráľ, erected in 2005, is located at the community centre.

On the Ipeľ River, directly on the Hungarian border near Pösténypuszta, lie the ruins of the “Dräxlerov valcový mlyn” roller mill. The site is considered to be the ruins of a roller mill.

Equestrian sports

The Kováčovce Riding Club has an equestrian facility with stables, a sand-surfaced training course and a grass paddock. The club has already hosted 23 successful editions of the Ipeľský pohár equestrian tournament, with riders from across the country taking part. The XXXIII edition of the tournament took place on 4 June 2022 in Kováčovce; the organiser was JO Kováčovce.

The club also offers excursions for preschool and schoolchildren. During these excursions, children can learn about the breeding, care and training of horses.

Viticulture

Agriculture, vegetable growing and viticulture were practised in Kováčovce. Viticulture has remained the most important occupation to this day.
