Bzovská Lehôtka between Hills and History

History

Bzovská Lehôtka was probably established in the 14th century and was founded by shepherds from Bzovík Abbey. The predominant occupation of the inhabitants remained livestock farming or shepherding. An order issued in 1504 prohibited the subjects of Bzovská Lehôtka from driving livestock onto the pastures of Krupina. Thus, the foundation, livestock farming and a specific regulation concerning the driving of livestock come from different points in time.

Landscape

The territory of the municipality of Bzovská Lehôtka comprises a hilly landscape with the flat valley of the Krupinica and the northern slope of Krupinská výšina. The mountains Zalaz, Hrádok and Hlina are located in the vicinity of Bzovská Lehôtka. Mount Ježová is located in the surroundings of Bzovská Lehôtka.

Culture

The cemetery of Bzovská Lehôtka contains carved, polychrome wooden crosses made of beech or oak wood. The Chapel of the Seven Sorrows of the Virgin Mary is a single-nave building with an attached tower and a Prussian vault. In the wider regional surroundings of Bzovská Lehôtka lie Stará Huta and Šášov; both are ruins.
