Tŕnie: Padalo Waterfall and Culture

Tŕnie combines cultural and historical heritage with landscape features on the outskirts of the village. Sacred architecture, local traditions, a gorge, a waterfall and trails are presented alongside its geographical context.

Culture

St. Martin's Church stands in the northwest of Tŕnie on a slight elevation. It is a Gothic church with a preserved Gothic rib vault in the sacristy. On the southern side of the old nave, it has a richly profiled Gothic portal. The church is in good condition and serves its religious purpose.

The Chapel of St. Vendelin is also part of Tŕnie's cultural heritage. In Kašová Lehôtka, the wooden bell tower has two bells, including one dating from 1667. The wooden bell tower in the Hrabiny district is an immovable cultural monument. A farmhouse with an agricultural outbuilding in Kašová Lehôtka is also one of the preserved traditional buildings: it was originally a three-room building and is used for recreational purposes.

The area's cultural history also reaches back to 1285. The oldest document referring to Tŕnie is a charter issued by King Ladislaus IV in that year. The Trňan folk group was founded in 1971.

Nature

Tŕnie lies in the Turovské predhorie subregion of the Kremnické vrchy. A gorge opens up at the northern edge of the village; Padalo Waterfall is located in it. The waterfall is approximately 12 metres high and lies on an andesite bedrock.

Piesky Ridge offers extensive views westward across almost the entire cadastral area of Železná Breznica. To the east, the view extends across the areas of Tŕnie and Turová and onwards to Zvolen, Sliač and other places. Farský jarok contains a small cave that served as a refuge for local residents during the early settlement period.

Hiking

The route through the gorge to Padalo Waterfall passes along chains installed at difficult-to-cross sections for support. A marked trail through the forest leads to a point above Padalo Waterfall.
