Višňové between Karst Landscapes, Mountain Trails and Living Culture

Višňové lies in the Žilina Basin at the foothills of the Lúčanská Malá Fatra and stretches for almost 4 km along the Rosinka stream through a valley. The higher parts of the village offer unobstructed views of the Žilina Basin. The village therefore combines a clearly defined valley setting with the mountain landscape of the Malá Fatra and a range of different natural and cultural sites.

Nature

The Višňovská dolina is known for its karst formations. The valley also has a spring and climbing walls. The 1,364 m-high Minčol dominates the entire area around Višňové. Hoblík is also part of the surrounding landscape: the 934 m-high mountain lies in the Malá Fatra between Višňové and Stráňavy.

Trails and Activities

The best-known route to Minčol begins in Višňové and follows a blue-marked trail. The ascent to Hoblík can be made via a short ferrata with two difficulty levels; it can also be bypassed. Around 20 sport-climbing routes were established in Višňové several years ago. In addition, the first section of the Rajecká cyklomagistrála runs from Rosina via Višňové to Turie on an asphalt road. Višňové also has unprepared cross-country skiing trails.

Culture

One of the notable cultural sites is the Farská rezidencia, a late Baroque manor house dating from the second half of the 18th century. The Kaplnka Vysoké-Čákor stands in a mountain landscape at the foothills of the Malá Fatra, next to a spring. It was consecrated by parish priest Milan Gábriš on 25 November 1995. The Žulový kríž was consecrated on 27 June 1937 and stands on a rise along the field road to the neighbouring municipality of Stráňavy, between stately lime trees.

The oldest record of the statue venerated in Višňové dates back to 1674. Every year, on the Saturday and Sunday before the Feast of the Visitation of the Blessed Virgin Mary, faithful people gather in Višňové for pilgrimage celebrations. Regular Fatima celebrations also take place on the 13th day of every month. Traditional carnival dishes are part of the Fašiangy celebrations in Višňové. Documented spring traditions include decorating Easter eggs, woodworking, weaving Korbáčs, creative workshops and a folk performance.

Festivals

Children from the kindergarten and musicians took part in the traditional Stavanie mája in Višňové. Visitors also participated, and together they welcomed spring. Alongside the religious dates, seasonal customs and community events therefore also form part of village life.

The Višňové, konečná bus stop can be reached by bus services from Žilina. At the end of Višňové, before the barrier at the entrance to the Višňovská dolina, there is a car park.
