Budimír: Manor House, Park and Historic Clocks

Budimír is located in the Košice Basin in the valley of the Torysa River. The village is situated about 12 km from Košice. Its manor house is a Neoclassical Theresian building dating from the second third of the 18th century. Together with the park, churches and historic collections, it creates a multifaceted picture of the village’s history.

Culture

The manor house in Budimír served as the seat of the Ujházy family branch. The manor house hosts changing smaller exhibitions on the history of technology, history and art. A particular focus is the exhibition of historic clocks. It covers the typological development of clock movements and the artistic design of clock cases from the beginning of the 18th century to the first third of the 20th century.

The exhibition includes brass wall clocks from 1760, made in the workshop of Košice clockmaker Lehner. Also on display is a pocket watch known as the Nuremberg egg, dating from 1630. French Boulle clocks from 1720 complement the historic pieces. Portraits of the manor house’s owners from the Ujházy family also establish a connection between the collection and the history of the building. On the manor house grounds, the Sýpka serves as a venue for regularly held antiques and curiosities fairs. Since November 13, 2024, the manor house has been closed to the public until further notice.

Nature

The manor house in Budimír is situated in a French park. Budimír Park is an important public green space with historic and garden-architectural value. At the same time, it is a national monument and is registered under number 413/5 in the Central Register of Monuments of the Slovak Republic. The park has an accessible entrance.

History

“Paradni dvor” is a compact historic building complex on an elevated terrace above Fišerovec. The old Evangelical church of Budimír dates from the end of the 18th century and is located in the historic park. Originally, it was the crypt of the Evangelical Ujházy family branch. Information panels about the history of the municipality are located near the old Evangelical church, the former Ujházy family crypt.

The Roman Catholic church of Budimír dates from the 15th century and was remodelled in the Neoclassical style in the 20th century. Thus, different historical periods and denominational buildings stand side by side in Budimír, while the Ujházy family history remains preserved at several described locations within the village.
