Hrabušice Hotels: Gorges, Nature and Culture

Podlesok is a district of Hrabušice and a suitable starting point for hikes into the gorges of Slovenský raj.

Nature

Podlesok is located at the mouth of the Suchá Belá gorge. The gorge features the Misové vodopády, Okienkový vodopád, Korytový vodopád, Bočný vodopád and Kaskáda waterfalls in this order. The SR10 Prielomom Hornádu – west circular route also starts and ends in Podlesok, at the SAD bus stop and car park.

The hiking trail through Prielom Hornádu has seven metal bridges and footbridges, around 320 m of chains on exposed rock faces, 140 climbing aids and approximately 70 m of wooden walkways. Podlesok also has a field station and an information centre of the Slovenský raj National Park administration.

Culture

The history of Hrabušice includes the St Lawrence Church. It was originally a Romanesque church dating from the mid-13th century. The Late Gothic winged altarpiece dates from 1516 to 1520 and contains sculptures from the workshop of Master Paul of Levoča. The church was open to the public daily from 9:00 am to 6:00 pm.

A castle ruin stands on the summit of Zelená hora in the Slovenský raj area, near Hrabušice. Only heavily damaged foundations and remnants of walls have survived to this day.

Cycling and Getting There

The marked cycling route “Hrabušice, Majer – okruh” is 4.0 km long. Hrabušice can also be reached by train from Žilina and Košice via Vydrník station, which is 3 km from Hrabušice.
