Lúcnica Nad Zitavou: nature trail and historic buildings

Nature

A spring emerges on a gentle slope near Vajkovská Studnička. There is a stone well, a chapel, planted green spaces, an ornamental pond, benches, a fire pit and an information board. Vajkovská studnička in Lúčnica nad Žitavou is considered a “lost” pilgrimage site. The site can be reached at the beginning of Vajky nad Žitavou in the Lúčnica district; the path leads from the direction of Dyčka across the railway line and along the stream to the chapels and the spring.

Trails

The Vajkovská stará Žitava nature trail is 1 km long, has no change in elevation and four stations, and can be completed in about 30 minutes. The self-guided, linear walking trail can be used in both directions and is open year-round. Its starting point is behind the Vajka nad Žitavou manor house. From there, the trail follows the Žitava upstream to Horné lúky.

Culture

The Chapel of Panny Márie Šaštínskej dates from 1733. The Vajka nad Žitavou manor house is a single-storey late Baroque building from the mid-18th century with a U-shaped floor plan. The manor house was surrounded by an extensive 18th-century park. At the same time, the manor house is abandoned and falling into disrepair.

The historic surroundings also include Ferencyho mlyn pri kaštieli, an originally Baroque mill building that probably dates from the mid-18th century. The mill was reconstructed in 2010, while its essential elements were preserved.

Another building is the Church of sv. Jána Nepomuckého, a late Baroque church from the mid-18th century. It was extended with side aisles in 1911 and remodeled in the 1950s. The church is in good condition and continues to serve its religious purpose.
