History

The history of the municipality's territory dates back several centuries. Dolný Taraň was first mentioned in 1269 under the name Taran. The municipality of Taraň was established in 1935 by merging the manor farms of Dolný Taraň and Horný Taraň. In the 18th century, the Grassalkovich family founded a settlement in the area where sheep were kept. From 1910, the Šuriansky sugar refinery leased both Taraň estates. The local history thus encompasses both the development of the settlement and the later economic connection between its two estates.

Culture

The chapel in Štefanovičová, dedicated to the Virgin Mary, was built by Russian prisoners in 1916. The chapel can be an interesting stop for cyclists. At the border of Štefanovičová in the direction of Branč stands a statue of the missionaries sv. Cyrila a Metoda. More recent cultural history is also visible: in 2024, the theatrical tradition in Štefanovičová was revived, and in the same year the carnival processions in Štefanovičová were revitalised.
