Rumanová – Hotels between the Castle Park and the Meteorite Educational Trail

Rumanová presents its history at several clearly identifiable sites. The castle with its park in Rumanová is the oldest preserved architectural object in Rumanová. The town thus combines a castle first mentioned in written sources with a later architectural form and individual monuments located at various points throughout the townscape.

Culture and history

The castle in Rumanová was first mentioned in a written source in 1663. At the same time, it is a late Neoclassical building commissioned by the Andrássy family in the first half of the 19th century. A park lies beside the castle and is currently used by residents, locals and visitors for recreation, relaxation and sports activities. Historic architecture and present-day use stand side by side here.

In the centre of Rumanová, the Chapel of Our Lady of the Rosary stands as a detached building on slightly elevated ground. Originally, it was a Baroque chapel built without a tower in the first half of the 18th century; an integrated tower was added in 1900. The chapel is a single-nave building with a semicircular apse, a flat interior ceiling and a tower with a bulbous cupola. Its location and architectural form make it an independent feature of the townscape.

The historic heritage also includes the stone cross Rumanová–Báb and a protected tomb. The stone cross Rumanová–Báb stands at the cadastral boundary beside the state road and was erected in 1790. The tomb with gravestone (ÚZPF 1534/0) in the local cemetery in Rumanová is a national cultural monument dating from 1920. Both sites add further individual testimonies within the municipality to the history of the castle and chapel.

Landscape

The protected landscape area of Rumanovský park was designated in 1982 to protect the historic park beside the castle. The park is therefore not only connected with the castle but is also named as a protected landscape area in its own right. The designation refers to the historic park landscape without defining any additional characteristics of the terrain.

Trails

The Meteorite Educational Trail is a self-guided, linear, bidirectional and year-round walking route focused on natural history, astronomy and cultural history. It is designed as an easy 1.4 km route with a walking time of one hour and three stations. The route begins at the statue of Saint Vendelín on the northern edge of Rumanová and leads north along a field track to the Mikloš area with a pond. The trail’s structure, direction and length are therefore just as clearly defined as its thematic focus.
