Mojmírovce: Hotel amid castle history and wine

Mojmírovce is home to the Mojmírovce castle and has several connections to wine. The castle was built in 1721 by Imrich Huňady in the Baroque style and was later rebuilt in the Neoclassical style after a fire. The area also features historic sites, a regional museum, preserved mill machinery and several wine-related attractions that describe the character of the destination in factual and specific terms.

Culture

In 1814, the first public horse races in Austria-Hungary took place in Urmín. The Mojmírovce Regional Museum is housed in the renovated summer residence of Prince Aldobrandini, which is also known as the “small castle.” The Church of Saint Ladislaus was commissioned by the local landowner Ladislav Huňady, who brought in craftsmen from Vienna.

The mill in Mojmírovce is also part of the town’s historical heritage. It retains most of its original technical equipment from 1926. The Mojmírovce Regional Museum preserves 305 rare old prints. In the park by the museum are ghost sculptures created based on motifs from local legends.

Wine

The Mojmírovce castle contains a vaulted brick wine cellar. Another established presence is Víno PD Mojmírovce: The vineyards now cover 133 hectares, and the winery uses exclusively grapes from its own vineyards. Visitors can taste the winery’s products in the Víno PD Mojmírovce tasting room.

Every spring, Mojmírovce hosts an annual wine tasting at the cultural center. Thus, both the historic cellar in the castle and the winery’s tasting room, as well as the annual event at the cultural center, represent different wine-related attractions within the town.
