Nové Zámky can be discovered through very different aspects: cultural history at the Múzeum Jána Thaina, thermal water at the Štrand complex and trails through the quiet natural surroundings of Lesopark Berek. There are also traces of the city’s history, a Kalvária and a cycle route suitable for recreational cyclists and families with children.

Culture and History

The Múzeum Jána Thaina v Nových Zámkoch researches, collects and makes the cultural heritage of Nové Zámky and its surroundings accessible. Its permanent exhibitions focus on archaeology, history, ethnography and regional personalities. The museum also offers educational tours, specialist lectures, and history and local heritage lessons. In addition to the exhibitions, visitors can therefore access various forms of educational outreach.

Nové Zámky was founded in the 16th century on the site of four villages that had been destroyed by the Turks. Most of the bastions of the former fortress of Nové Zámky can still be identified in the city plan.

Another notable site is the Kalvária. It comprises twelve symmetrically arranged chapels, a cross and Neo-Baroque statues. Since 1963, the Kalvária has been registered as a national cultural monument. Nové Zámky also has a monument commemorating the great plague epidemic of 1740. At various locations, you will therefore encounter both older traces of settlement and fortress history and religious and commemorative heritage.

Thermal Water and Pools

The Štrand thermal complex has nine pools. Its thermal water comes from a 1,506-metre-deep geothermal borehole and reaches 52 °C. The number of pools, the depth of the borehole and the water temperature describe the complex as specifically as its geothermal basis.

Nature and Trails

In the southwest of Nové Zámky, Lesopark Berek offers recreation in a quiet natural setting. There are several paved and forest trails there. Lesopark Berek can be reached across a bridge only on foot or by bicycle; motor vehicles are not permitted to enter. This access restriction is just as much a feature of the site as its different trail surfaces.

Another way to experience the surroundings on two wheels is the 019a-Ponitrianska cycle route. It is suitable for recreational cyclists and families with children. Alongside the trails in Lesopark, this provides a cycling connection in the Nové Zámky area explicitly suited to these user groups.

For a stay in Nové Zámky, hotel offers can be considered in connection with the destination’s various themes. Culture, thermal water, nature trails and cycling connections provide the factual points of reference. Comparing prices and offers creates a clear basis for choosing accommodation without reducing the different sides of Nové Zámky to a single travel purpose.
