Kálnica lies in the northwest of the Považský Inovec mountain range and encompasses the Vysoký Inovec and Inovecké predhorie landscape subregions. In Kálnica, the Vysoký Inovec area features a highly varied mountain relief with relative differences in elevation ranging from 311 to 640 metres. The highest point in the Kálnica area is Ostrý vrch, also known as Vtáčí vŕštek, at 910 metres on the main ridge of the Považský Inovec. Ostrý vrch has a viewing terrace with carved information boards about the surrounding Považie region.

Hiking

A blue-marked hiking trail leads from Kálnica via Polámaný vrch to the ridge of the Považský Inovec. Panská Javorina can be climbed from Kálnica in about 3.5 hours. Route 09 starts and ends in Kálnica: it runs from the Piesky ski area at the end of Kálnica via Panská Javorina and Ostrý vrch back to Kálnica. The route is 23.5 km long, moderately difficult and takes about 6 hours and 30 minutes.

A freely accessible tourist shelter provides overnight accommodation; the log cabin has a small stove, and there is a spring with drinking water nearby. Since 2011, the ascent to the Slovanský dvojkríž on Ostrý vrch has taken the form of a star-shaped hiking ascent.

Mountain biking

At Kálnica Bikepark, 14 MTB disciplines can be practised. The bike park has a lit area for evening rides. It also offers rides by arrangement with experienced instructors, a cycling school for children, a cycling school and bike camps.

In summer, the Piesky centre serves as a centre for mountain bikers and has a lift and an obstacle course for downhill runs. This means that different forms of cycling coexist in the Kálnica area: the facilities offered by the bike park and the summer use of the Piesky centre.

Culture

The ruins of the as-yet-unidentified Pod Hromovým monastery are located in the Kňažia valley. The former church school and the Evangelical prayer house in Kálnica were consecrated on 22 September 1946. A bell tower was built in Kálnica in 1959–1960, and a community room was added in 1968.

Kálnica has an exhibition on the history of the Daranský Mill, which has since been demolished; Jozef Miloslav Hurban visited his godparents there. A permanent ethnographic exhibition was established in Kálnica to mark the 600th anniversary.
