Culture and history
The Draškovič Manor House features interactive exhibitions on the history of Čachtice, Countess Alžbeta Báthoryová, Habaner ceramics, Roma history, the Tatrín association, the noble families of Čachtice and the furnishings of aristocratic residences.
The Miniature Park in Podolie presents more than 100 models of castles, châteaux, churches, cottages, observation towers and birth houses of important personalities in an open-air exhibition. The Podjavorinské Museum exhibition covers archaeology, history, ethnography, the history of craft guilds in Nové Mesto and the surrounding area, as well as the ecclesiastical development of the region.
The "Tradičné bývanie" exhibition at the town museum in Stará Turá displays old furniture, local folk costumes, historic religious books and household objects from everyday life in the past. At the Stará Turá Railway Museum, visitors can also try out a Morse telegraph and view old timetables.
The Church of the Nativity of the Virgin Mary in Nové Mesto nad Váhom is a fortified church with late Romanesque origins dating from the mid-13th century, which was remodelled in the Gothic style as an octagonal building between 1414 and 1423. Between 1667 and 1675, the Gothic nave was converted into a Baroque three-nave church by the insertion of dividing arcades.
The ruins of Beckov Castle stand in Beckov on a steep, 60-metre-high rock near the Váh River. Beckov Castle became a ruin after a fire in 1728.
The entrance to Čachtické podzemie is about a seven-minute walk from the village square; parking is not possible on the narrow dead-end street.
Tematín Castle is a highly visible romantic ruin on a ridge of the Považský Inovec and once served as an important signal castle. From Tematín Castle, there are views of the Považský Inovec, the Podunajská nížina, the Little Carpathians, the Myjavská pahorkatina and the White Carpathians. From the recreational area below Bezovec, it can be reached on foot via a blue-marked trail in approximately 1 hour 30 minutes, and from Lúka via a blue-marked trail in approximately 2 hours 15 minutes.
The Bošácka dolina Archaeopark provides insights into the lives of people from the last Ice Age, approximately 33,000 to 22,000 years ago, and includes a human dwelling dating from approximately 3,500 years ago, from the Late Stone Age or Copper Age. The ruin of the church of Haluzice is a Romanesque church from the 13th century overlooking the Bošácka dolina.
Nature and landscape
Haluzická tiesňava is a protected natural monument and also a technical structure in Haluzice, formed by the erosion of the Haluzický potok. Haluzická tiesňava has been protected since 1963 and currently has the fourth level of protection. A forest educational trail was established through Haluzická tiesňava in 2012.
The Hájnica observation tower offers panoramic views over the Bošácka dolina, the White Carpathians and the surrounding kopanice settlements.
Štúrova skala is a natural rock outcrop near the Dubník reservoir in Stará Turá, projecting from a wooded slope. Štúrova skala is a popular recreational area with an easy ascent and a training ground for climbers.
Water and leisure
Zelená voda is 2 km from Nove Mesto Nad Vahom and can be reached from the D1 motorway as well as by car, bus, bicycle, inline skates or on foot. Windsurfing is available at the Zelená voda recreational area.
The Dubník recreational area consists of two reservoirs, Dubník I and Dubník II, also known as New and Old Dubník. During the summer season, the Dubník reservoir, particularly Dubník I, offers opportunities for swimming, renting boats and pedal boats, playing tennis and table tennis, and fishing.
Bošácka slivovica is a traditional fruit brandy speciality from Bošáca.
Cycling and active destinations
The Horná Streda–Nové Mesto nad Váhom cycling route connects the four municipalities of Horná Streda, Brunovce, Potvorice and Považany with Nové Mesto nad Váhom and is 13.4 km long. It is classified as a recreational cycling path, is suitable for all age groups including children, and can also be used by inline skaters as well as cyclists.
The Bike Fest takes place every year at the Kálnica Freeride Bikepark and includes a World Cup slopestyle event.
The connection between Beckov and the Vážska cyklomagistrála is designed as a separate path for cyclists and pedestrians and is also suitable for families with children and less experienced cyclists.
