Lubina is characterised by an agricultural landscape with a dispersed settlement pattern. This includes meadows, pastures, arable land, preserved fruit trees, shrubs and orchards with old, rare varieties of service trees, pears, apples and plums.

Culture and History

The new vicarage next to the Evangelical church was built at the same time as the church in 1909 under the direction of the architect Milan Harminc and is now a cultural monument. The Rodný dom Samuela Štúra Museum comprises four exhibitions covering Samuel Štúr and the Štúrs from Lubina, J. Ľ. Holuby, regional history, culture and traditional costumes, as well as the world wars, the Slovak National Uprising beneath Veľká Javorina, the foreign resistance and American airmen.

The museum is dedicated to Jozef Ľudovít Holuby (1836–1923), who was born in Lubina and was a world-renowned Evangelical pastor and botanist. The Rodný dom kapitána Miloša Uhra is associated with Miloš Uher (1914–1945), the commander of the Hurban partisan unit.

The Lubina dialect dictionary contains more than 2,700 dialect words, registers of field names, descriptions of the preparation of traditional dishes, accounts of memories, records of old wedding songs and inherited nicknames. At the annual Slávnosti bratstva Čechov a Slovákov on Veľká Javorina, folk music groups, folklore ensembles and country groups from both sides of the border perform; the centre of the celebrations is usually the area around Holubyho chata.

Memorial ceremonies are held at the monument every year in August. On 2 August 2025, Správa vodovodu Lubina-Podkozince, under the direction of Branislav Znachor, organised the 13th edition of the Podkozinská vareška goulash cooking competition.

Nature and Trails

The Záhradská Nature Reserve was designated by Order MK SSR No. 63/1984-32 of 30 April 1984; the designation came into force on 1 May 1984. In the Barina district, FarmaPARK Lubina offers direct contact with animals of miniature breeds.

The Chodník kpt. Miloša Uhra is an 11.8-kilometre hiking trail to Veľká Javorina. The Básnická stezka, established jointly with Kunovice, is more than 60 kilometres long, has its starting point at Javorina and can be used on foot or by bicycle.

The ski resort on Veľká Javorina is located at an altitude of 905 metres above sea level. The cross-country ski trails in the vicinity of Veľká Javorina are connected to the Moravian side and to Stará Myjava.
