Modrová: Nature, Caves and MTB Routes

Modrová combines natural landscapes, cultural heritage and trails. The range extends from architectural details to caves, forests and mountains; the places mentioned also differ in their geographical contexts.

Trails

The green MTB Route 5213 runs from Hubina via Gonove Lazy to Horáreň Modrová. It passes mainly through forest terrain and connects at its end with the red Route 020 “Across the Považský Inovec” through the Považský Inovec. The route therefore links several named points while also forming the transition between two routes of different colors.

Nature

The Kyselka mineral spring is located in the Kalište recreational area in Modrová. The Kňaží vrch Nature Reserve preserves thermophilous oak forests with downy oaks (Quercus pubescens). Together with the open rocks, these enable the occurrence of xerothermic flora and fauna in the Považský Inovec. Carpathian species also occur on the northern slopes; the nature reserve is part of the Tematínske vrchy Site of European Importance.

Modrovská Cave contains characteristic pisolitic sinter formations, including a variety of bush-like forms reminiscent of underwater corals. It is the largest cave in the Považský Inovec; its entrance lies on the northwestern slope of the Grnica massif at an elevation of 523 m. The cave is closed to the general public. Visits are possible only when accompanied by members of the Inovec caving group.

Culture

The church in Modrová has a presbytery standing on square foundations and covered by a barrel vault. A small sacristy is connected to the chancel by a flat Gothic trefoil portal; it has one Romanesque and one Gothic narrow window, each only 10 to 15 cm wide. The Church of St. Michael the Archangel in Modrová is listed in the Central Register of the Slovak Monuments Fund under number 1253/0.
