The Chocholnianska dolina is part of the White Carpathians Protected Landscape Area. The Petrová natural monument was designated in the Chocholnianska dolina in 1993. Species-rich orchid meadows near Pálčí, below Tlstá hora and in other locations have been partially preserved. The references to animals and bodies of water are also specific: the lynx occurs rarely in the Chocholnianska dolina, while the Chocholnica stream is one of the best-preserved streams in the region. Things to do

The hiking references are tied to a specific date and a precisely described route. On August 29, 2026, the 28th edition of the Okolo Chocholanskej doliny hiking event will take place in the Chocholnianska dolina. The circular route of this hiking event starts at the municipal office of Chocholná-Velčice, leads via Skalický vrch, Sokolí kameň, Machnáč, Kykula, Melčický vrch, Dúždniky and Tlstá hora, and returns to the municipal office. In addition, a hiking route ends in Chocholná-Velčice.

The Chocholná-Kykula uphill cycling races have reached their 24th edition. The route of the Chocholná-Kykula cycling race is 11 km long, runs along a paved mountain road to Penzión Stará Škola on Kykula and has an elevation gain of 550 m. The route thus explicitly states its surface and course, as well as the destination, length and elevation gain.

Culture and History

The Furmanská paráda includes a festive procession with horse-drawn carriages; the Furmanská paráda has reached its 20th. Chocholná-Velčice is also home to a classicist bell tower in the form of a tower from the first half of the 19th century. The archaeological reference goes back even further: in the territory of the formerly independent municipality of Chocholná-Velčice, there was already a settlement and a cremation burial ground of the Lusatian culture in the Late Bronze Age. The traditional event, the building and the prehistoric settlement thus each represent their own temporal and cultural reference.

Local Tradition
