Trenčín District: Hotels and accommodations

Trenčín Castle is a landmark of the city of Trenčín and the entire Považie region and is one of the most extensive castles in Europe. Its history dates back to a residential tower and a rotunda from the 11th century; the remains are visible in the upper castle courtyard. The castle can be reached from the city center by tourist train.

Culture and history

A Roman inscription on the castle rock in Trenčín commemorates the Romans’ victory over the Germanic Quadi. It can be viewed through a glass wall in the Elizabeth Hotel; to reach it, go upstairs through the entrance hall.

The Trenčianske múzeum has collections covering archaeology, history, ethnography, art history, numismatics, geology, botany, and zoology. The Katov dom is the only largely unaltered Renaissance burgher house of its kind preserved in Trenčín. It houses exhibitions about the city executioner, the guild system in Trenčín and the surrounding area, and the homes and everyday life of citizens from after 1850 through the interwar period.

Today’s Trenčín synagogue stands on the site of a wooden synagogue built in 1781. The present building is a modern reinforced-concrete structure with Byzantine and Moorish-Oriental elements, designed by Richard Scheibner and Hugo Pál.

The Piarist Church of St. Francis Xavier features illusionistic dome paintings above the nave and is one of Slovakia’s significant Baroque sacred monuments. The Parish Church of the Nativity of the Virgin Mary is one of the oldest and most important sacred buildings in Trenčín.

The Župný dom is one of Trenčín’s most significant historic buildings. Following restoration from 2025 to 2026, it will offer exhibition and gallery spaces for exhibitions, small concerts, and literary evenings.

The Miloš Alexander Bazovský Gallery presents a cross-section of Miloš Alexander Bazovský’s Slovak modernist work in a permanent exhibition, including landscapes, still lifes, and figurative compositions. The gallery also offers guided exhibition tours, specialist lectures, and creative workshops.

The hammam in Trenčianske Teplice was built in 1888 in the Oriental-Moorish style and is considered a European rarity. Skalka is considered the oldest pilgrimage site in Slovakia.

Nature and trails

Brezina Forest Park is a southwestern extension of the Strážovské vrchy and reaches into the urban area of Trenčín. It offers opportunities for walking, running, and cycling on separate and shared paths.

At 1,042 meters, Inovec is the highest peak of the Považský Inovec mountain range.

The Dúbravka lookout tower can be reached from the cemetery in Soblahov in approximately ten minutes on foot.

Activities

Gazdovstvo Uhliská in Nemšová offers horseback riding and hippotherapy. Tarzania in Trenčín has 22 elevated platforms and various rope obstacles at heights of 5 to 10 meters, as well as blue, red, and black courses.

The TTS Trenčín Canoe Club allows visitors to rent sports equipment for activities on the water.

TREŽ is a historic narrow-gauge railway that is 115 years old and connects Trenčianska Teplá with the spa town of Trenčianske Teplice. It offers irregular tourist rides, lectures, and cultural events for visitors.

Getting around

A lift from Sládkovičova Street provides visitors with reduced mobility access to the first viewing platform of the Mestská veža.
