Trenčín: Hotels between the Castle, City History and Nature

Trenčín combines a striking castle complex with historical landmarks, a large forest park near the city centre and a boating experience on the Váh. The most prominent feature is the stone fortress of Trenčín Castle, whose origins date back to the 11th century. Here, medieval architectural history, evidence of the city’s past and a landscape of paths and water-based experiences come together in one place.

Culture

At Trenčín Castle, visitors can explore exhibition rooms and permanent exhibitions of the Trenčianske múzeum v Trenčíne. The displays focus on the history of the castle and the entire region. The castle rock is also home to a Roman inscription regarded as the most important authentic written evidence preserved in situ of the presence of Roman troops in this area in the 2nd century AD. The castle complex therefore brings both the medieval fortress and a written record from the Roman era into focus.

The Neological Synagogue in Trenčín is also part of the city’s history. It is an exceptional architectural work and tangible evidence of the history of the local Jewish community. Due to its heritage value, it was declared a national cultural monument in 1963. The Mestská veža was probably built at the beginning of the 15th century as part of the city fortifications. From the High Middle Ages to the present day, it has served as the southern entrance to Mierové námestie.

The Mestská veža has a circular viewing platform with views in all directions. From there, visitors can see historic buildings and nearby sights such as the Piaristický kostol and the well-known Jewish synagogue. The platform thus connects a preserved part of the city fortifications with views of several elements of the historic cityscape.

Nature

Lesopark Brezina covers 212.68 hectares and is located in the immediate vicinity of Trenčín city centre. The forest area has separate paths exclusively for pedestrians, separate paths exclusively for cyclists and shared-use paths. The paths are therefore divided according to their intended use, with additional sections available to both groups.

Among the special trails in Lesopark are the Divotraily Trenčín. These are narrow forest trails for mountain bikes offering various levels of difficulty. Another way to explore the area is the educational trail “Vznik a vývoj lesa”. It is 1,500 metres long, has an elevation difference of 50 metres and includes 12 information panels. In addition to the narrow mountain-bike trails, the Lesopark’s network therefore also includes a signposted educational trail with a specified length, elevation difference and twelve information panels.

Experiences

On the Váh, the boating experience on the “Dominik” offers views of Trenčín and the surrounding area. The trip also includes nautical activities such as instruction in tying various sailors’ knots. The standard circular route “Od elektrárne po stavidlá” takes approximately one hour.
