Discover Mníchova Lehota: Nature, Hiking and Culture

Mníchova Lehota can be explored on two levels: through its natural and hiking attractions, as well as through its sacred and historical landmarks. This means that a stay here focuses not only on paths through the landscape, but also on churches, ruins, an educational trail and cultural events.

Culture

The Church of the Holy Trinity in Mníchova Lehota was built in the mid-14th century. In 1963, it was included in the Slovak register of immovable cultural monuments. Visible ruins of a monastery have been preserved on Kostelec; they were mentioned in the 1829 canonical visitation of Bishop Vurum of Nitra.

More recent sacred landmarks are also part of the townscape. The filial church in Mníchova Lehota was consecrated on 27 May 2018 by Mons. Viliam Judák, Bishop of Nitra. A Lourdes grotto stands next to the church, built from stones taken from the cave. An archaeological reference reaches even further back: Neanderthal tools from the Middle Paleolithic were found in Mníchova Lehota.

Nature and Landscape

The cadastral territory of Mníchova Lehota lies in the Strážovské vrchy mountains and also in the Považský Inovec mountains. A publicly accessible Kyselka spring is located in Krásna dolina. The forests around Mníchova Lehota are popular destinations for hiking, mushroom picking and hunting.

A starting point for hikes and ascents into the Považský Inovec massif is located at Motorest Radar. This identifies a specific starting point within the town's territory for routes into the mountain area, while the two mountain ranges define the landscape setting.

Hiking and Educational Trail

Route 13 from Soblahov via Chata pod Ostrým vrchom to Mníchova Lehota is classified as an easy hike. It is 8 km long, has an elevation gain of 492 metres and is listed as taking 2 hours and 30 minutes. The route passes through beech forests, past the Macková limestone cliff, descends to Mníchova Lehota and ends at the town's railway station.

Route 11 from Mníchova Lehota via Inovec, Palúch and Selec is classified as moderately difficult and begins at the railway station in Mníchova Lehota. The Náučný chodník educational trail offers another way to explore the town and its surroundings. It comprises 11 numbered stations: Blaškovec, Kostelec, Amfiteáter, Cintorin, Cigánsky járek, Lipa, Dolný mlyn, Jágrovec, Konzum, Kultúrny dom and Kostol.

Local Life and Transport

The Trenčianske folklórne slávnosti have been held in the amphitheatre of Mníchova Lehota since 1973. The former Trenčín–Selec mountain railway ran through Mníchova Lehota. Several preserved sections of the route and bridge remains are now used by nature lovers and cyclists.

You can travel back from Mníchova Lehota to Trenčín by train or bus. Thus, in addition to the hiking routes described, public transport is also available as part of the local connections.
