Trenčianska Teplá: Culture, Cycle Paths and Hotels

Trenčianska Teplá lies in the southeast of the Ilava Basin at the foothills of the Strážov Mountains. Here, the Teplička stream emerges from the mountains, flows through Trenčianska Teplá and subsequently empties into the Váh.

Culture

In Podhradište, the visible remains of the ramparts of a hillfort associated with the Púchov culture have been preserved on a plateau. Trenčianska Teplá is also home to the Church of St. Matthew, a Baroque church built in 1733 on older foundations. It has a Baroque-Classical high altar from the late 18th century.

In Dobrá, the Roman Catholic Church of the Finding and Exaltation of the Cross, dating from 1900, stands on the site of an older Baroque church. The tower of the former church continues to serve as a bell tower; it houses a late Gothic bell from 1516. The bell tower is a masonry Classical tower from the end of the 18th century with a pyramid roof. It stands on a hill in the northeastern part of the municipality, is in good condition and continues to serve its purpose.

Individual historic building elements have also been preserved in Príles. There stands a bell tower probably dating from the period of the Counter-Reformation, with a bell dated 1660. Today, only a very small remnant of the former manor house remains. Of the chapel formerly located in the manor house, only walls with a Gothic window have survived in a remaining part of the building.

The Teplanský folk costume is characterized by colourful embroidery on the sleeves and apron. The patterns feature geometric and floral forms, as well as animal motifs such as a peacock, rooster and bird. In spring 2022, the TEPLANKA folklore ensemble resumed its regular rehearsals and continues to participate in a large part of the cultural events in Trenčianska Teplá. TEPLANKA presented programmes based on local songs and customs, including “Teplanská svadba”, “Drápanie peria” and “Dožinky”.
