Skačany – Hotels, Chapels and Cultural Monuments
Skačany becomes tangible through specific locations, construction dates and spatial references. The individual details point to different functions, forms and chronological layers. This creates a factually defined picture of the Slovak locality in which historical traces and references to places remain distinguishable.
Culture and History
The Baroque Chapel of Saint Barbara was built in 1731. It served as a baptistery, where baptisms were performed, and preserves historic frescoes that were restored in 2007. The earliest available written mention of the chapel dates from 1729. This building therefore brings together its construction date, use and artistic features.
The Parish Church of All Saints was built between 1804 and 1812. The Neoclassical altar of the Parish Church of All Saints, dating from the early 19th century, is a national cultural monument. An older historical layer belongs to the Church of Saint George: it was built in the 13th century and extended in 1667. The foundations of the vanished Romanesque Church of Saint George are a national cultural monument. Skačany thus brings together different historical periods and various examples of sacred architectural history.
The Skačany folk costume is of the West Slovakian type and represents an independent regional reference alongside the sacred buildings.

The site of the vanished Church of Saint George lies on a slight rise east of the present-day cemetery, in the Hôrka or Farské area.
