Partizánske: Baťa Architecture, Culture and Hotels

Partizánske combines the city’s history of the Baťa era with historic buildings, public cultural offerings and diverse leisure activities. The Baťa architecture is particularly distinctive: it was created by the Baťa company according to the philosophy of the “Ideal Industrial City”. Batist urban planning is still visible today in factory buildings, a community centre, residential buildings and a church. SNP Square is also part of this context; it was laid out at the end of the 1930s according to the development plan for Baťovany.

Culture

An informative starting point for exploring the city’s history is Baťa Point. The information centre is located in a Baťa workers’ house on Červená ulica in Partizánske. There, visitors can tour the rooms of a Baťa workers’ house. Baťa Point also organises city tours, complementing the visible traces of Batist urban planning with local interpretation.

The Partizánske City Museum collects, preserves, scientifically processes and makes accessible objects documenting the history of Partizánske and the surrounding region. Its programme includes exhibitions, discussions, lectures and publications. The Partizánske Observatory offers the public observations of the night and daytime sky. Since 2012, it has also had a mobile digital planetarium. A lecture hall equipped with audiovisual technology is available for seminars and educational programmes for the general public.

Places

The Vodný hrad Water Castle is located in the Šimonovany district. In Slovakia, it is one of the oldest preserved Gothic-Renaissance noble residences in the category of castellated buildings. The water castle includes an adjoining landscaped park. The building was opened to the public from May 2016.

The Church of the Assumption of the Virgin Mary also stands in Šimonovany. It is the oldest Roman Catholic church in the territory of Partizánske and is also a national cultural monument.

Public Facilities

The Panoramic 3D Cinema Partizánske screens Slovak premieres as well as international and domestic films in 3D. Alongside the historic sites and collections, it thus offers a cultural programme explicitly focused on the present day.

The Dúha outdoor swimming pool in Partizánske has a large swimming pool, a children’s paddling pool, a sitting and relaxation pool, and a pool with attractions. The facilities also include a water slide, a children’s slide, a beach volleyball court, game tables and a barefoot trail.

The Zimný štadión Partizánske complex is available for ice sports. Individuals and organised groups can use it by prior arrangement. Another option is the Cyklotrasa mesta Partizánske – I. etapa cycle route. It begins in the built-up area of Partizánske and follows the paved protective embankment of the Nitra to Malé Bielice.
