Krásno combines church and local history with the Chríb archaeological site, a viewpoint and various trails through the Tribeč area. For visitors, these subjects are not limited to the past: Alongside architecture and historical finds, hiking, cycling and fishing at the municipal pond are among the different aspects that can be considered separately when planning. The combination of specific historical dates, a clearly defined archaeological site and different trail routes makes the subjects easy to distinguish; depending on the focus, sightseeing, views or getting around take centre stage.
Culture and History
The neoclassical Church of the Exaltation of the Holy Cross, which has been preserved to this day, was built in 1800–1801 after the adjacent smaller medieval church had been demolished. As the new parish church in Krásno, the Church of the Exaltation of the Holy Cross was consecrated in 1801 by the Bishop of Nitra, František Xaver Fusch.
Its interior is characterised by Prussian vaults and an altarpiece depicting the Cross of Christ. The Austrian painter Jozef Zanussi created this painting in 1806.
At Chríb, the archaeological site preserves the foundations of a pre-Romanesque church from the 11th century. It is considered one of the oldest at least partially preserved architectural monuments in Slovakia.
A medieval cemetery lies by the church on Chríb, where numerous historical artefacts have been found. These include coins, the oldest of which date from the 12th century, as well as a bronze corpus of Christ from the 12th century.
Trails and Landscape
From the municipality of Krásno, the archaeological site of the church on Chríb can be reached via an unmarked footpath. At the viewpoint by the double cross on Chríb, views open up to the west over the central Nitra Valley and Topoľčany, and to the east towards the Tribeč Mountains.
A freely accessible telescope stands at the viewpoint. A shelter protects hikers from the rain and provides seating.
Getting Around
A hiking route through the Tribeč area reaches its lowest point in Krásno, at 185 metres above sea level. The cycling tour “Bicyklom po severnej časti Tribeča” follows local roads through Krásno and climbs up to Chríb.
The information about the footpath, hiking route and cycling tour represents different ways of getting around; the mode of transport and the route remain separate characteristics.
For accommodation planning in Krásno, travel dates, room category and cancellation conditions form three separate points of comparison. They show how the financial framework and the desired flexibility appear under different travel plans, without presupposing any particular accommodation.
Fishing
A valid fishing permit is required for fishing at the Krásno municipal pond. The principle of “catch and release” applies there: Caught fish may neither be taken away nor kept and must be returned to the water immediately.
