Radobica between the Tríbeč and Vtáčnik Mountains: Nature, Trails and Culture

Radobica lies in the northeastern part of the Tríbeč Mountains, at the transition to the Vtáčnik Mountains. At the same time, the village is situated in a side valley of the Hornejský potok stream. This geographical location is one of Radobica’s defining features: the landscape around the village is characterized by oak-hornbeam forests and beech forests interspersed with fir, spruce and pine trees.

Nature

The cadastral area of Radobica is also located in the Ponitrie Protected Landscape Area (CHKO Ponitrie). Hôrka Park is situated on Hôrka Hill above the church in Radobica. It features a rest area with beautiful views of Radobica and the surrounding wooded natural landscape. The park also includes a five-metre-long attraction called “Rebrík do neba”, or “Ladder to Heaven” in English.

Parks

Hruštička Park is used for various leisure activities; in 2023, a bicycle rack was installed there.

Trails

The “Radobický náučný chodníček” nature trail provides visitors with information about interesting places in Radobica and offers walks through a pleasant mountain landscape. The trail also includes newly built covered seating shelters.

Culture

Radobica is home to the Church of the Sacred Heart of Jesus (“Kostol Božského Srdca Ježišovho”). It was built between 1949 and 1969, initially as a chapel, and was later enlarged and converted into a church by local residents. The church is Radobica’s only cultural monument. A statue of Saint John of Nepomuk stands in the courtyard in front of the church.

In Cerová, there is a water mill built in 1820 for the entire municipality of Radobica. During reconstruction, it was fitted with a modern Francis turbine and new grain-processing machinery; the turbine was manufactured in the Czech Republic. Along the road to Cerová, the stone foundations of the former water mill and the remains of the watercourse are visible.

Cerová is also home to a chapel dedicated to the Virgin Mary. It is located 2.5 km from Radobica and was built after 1945 by local resident Ján Tomáš. It was built out of gratitude for his return from Italian prisoner-of-war captivity during the Second World War.
