Ráztočno – Trails, Rock Views and Church History

Ráztočno lies in the Handlová foothills of the Upper Nitra Basin, at the southwestern foot of the Žiar Mountains and in the valley of the Handlovka stream.

Hiking and Viewpoints

A marked blue hiking route connects Ráztočno and Sklené over 9 km. Another described route starts in Remata near Ráztočno and leads to Bralová skala. This hike is moderately difficult, marked in red and yellow, 1.6 km long and takes about 45 minutes. The details concerning its markings, length and duration make the course of this connection specific, without equating it with the longer route between Ráztočno and Sklené.

The Hájska skala rock viewpoint can be reached via the blue-marked path in the direction of Ráztočno and, in favorable weather, offers views of the municipalities in the Handlová Valley. A publicly accessible cave of the same name lies below Hájska skala. Thus, this landscape feature includes both a rock viewpoint and a cave with the same designation, while the viewpoint is also associated with the Handlová Valley.

In favorable weather, Bralová skala also opens up views beyond the immediate surroundings: visible are the town of Handlová, the Turiec Basin, and the Little Fatra, Kremnica Mountains and Vtáčnik mountain ranges.

Cycle Paths

The Bojnický cyklookruh and Rematská spojka cycle paths run through the cadastral area of the municipality of Ráztočno. In addition, the Bojnice Cycle Route runs through Ráztočno between Remata and Nedožery-Brezany. This means that several named cycle connections are documented for the municipal area, each placing Ráztočno on a different route.

Culture and Local Events

The Church of the Nativity of the Virgin Mary stands in the center of Ráztočno. It was originally built between 1280 and 1300 as an early Gothic church. On its south wall are vertical sundials with a dial divided into full hours from 7 a.m. to 5 p.m.; they probably date from around 1667. The church thus combines an early Gothic period of origin with a later, chronologically dated feature on its exterior wall.

The annual local events include the Beh SNP race, which takes place in Ráztočno every year with international participation. The race's name and its international participation are just as much part of the event as its regular staging.

A special feature of the railway connection concerns the Prievidza–Horná Štubňa line: Ráztočno and Remäta are the only two stops on this railway line where tickets are not sold. The two places are therefore expressly named together within this railway line.
