Sebedražie: Church, Mining and VODNÝ SVET

The Church of Saint Barbara is the most important landmark in Sebedražie. Sebedražie lies in the centre of Upper Nitra, at the northwestern foothills of the Vtáčnik Mountains; the Ciglianka stream flows through the village.

The municipal area of Sebedražie is predominantly hilly and characterised by numerous alluvial fans. Geologically, it consists of Neogene strata containing coal seams. The oldest written reference to Sebedražie dates from 1245. From 1350 onwards, the village belonged to the Sivý Kameň estate. The Church of Saint Barbara also reflects the area's long history: it was originally Gothic and is mentioned in the second half of the 15th century. The church's new façade dates from 1874. Stavanie májov is considered a traditional local event in Sebedražie.

Leisure

The Horná Nitra Open-Air Mining Museum offers a particularly tangible experience of the region's industrial history. There, visitors travel underground on a typical mine railway. The experience also includes a 566-metre circular tour with expert commentary.
