Medveďov combines historical landmarks with protected wetlands and a long cycling connection through Žitný ostrov. Nature

Opatovské jazierko is a nature reserve in the cadastral territory of Medveďov. It features a floodplain forest of willows and poplars, as well as protected plant and animal species. The cadastral territory of Medveďov itself is also part of the internationally important Dunajské luhy wetland.

The natural area also includes Kľúčovské rameno. The area lies in the cadastral territories of the municipalities of Medveďov, Sap and Kľúčovec. It belongs to Part IV of the Dunajské luhy Protected Landscape Area and is also part of the Dunajské luhy Ramsar site. Kľúčovské rameno is a naturally flooded oxbow depression with well-developed reed beds of Phragmites australis. The adjacent banks are covered mainly by white willows (Salix alba). The area is home to 240 plant species, including protected species such as Najas minor and Trapa natans.

Culture and History

The Church of Saint Anne is a cultural monument in Medveďov. It was built around 1800 and restored after a fire in 1855. Another historical landmark is the monument to the victims of the First and Second World Wars, which is considered one of the most tourism-worthy localities in Medveďov.

The community day, “Deň obce,” is scheduled in Medveďov as a regularly held cultural event for the period from 25 to 30 July.

Cycling and Waters

A 73.5 km cycling route through Žitný ostrov runs via Medveďov and connects Dunajská Streda with Komárno. The section passing through Medveďov is almost completely flat and follows state roads and the Danube embankment. Medveďov is also a border crossing into Hungary.

In the section of the Danube adjacent to Medveďov, a carp fishing area called “Dunaj č. 2” has been designated. The name describes the designated area; it does not imply any other characteristics.
