Landscape
The southern part of Štefanov lies in the flat floodplain of the Myjava River. The Štefanovský potok stream flows through the town. The cadastral area is used predominantly for agriculture and is partly covered by acacia forest.
Culture
Štefanov is home to the Neo-Gothic Church of Saint Catherine of Alexandria, built in 1937 on the site of an older church dating from 1561. Its interior has three naves and features a polygonal chancel termination and a projecting tower. The high altar bears a painting of Saint Catherine by E. Massányi.
Other religious and historical features include the roadside statue of Saint John of Nepomuk by the village stream in the town centre, a folk stone carving from the late 19th century, and the statue of the Seven Sorrows, or Božie muky, on a hill opposite house no. 90. The Chapel of Saint Florian also stands in the town centre, in front of the old fire station. The cemetery contains a Calvary group dating from 1921.
The chapel at Stárniská stands on the road between Dojč and Štefanov, near the grounds of an agricultural cooperative. Tomšov mlyn is one of Štefanov’s historic settlements with its original buildings; some of these buildings have architectural and historical value.
Local Life
A football pitch was built next to the primary school grounds in 2017 and is used by the Športový futbalový klub Štefanov for football matches. The pitch has a covered spectator stand.
The sports complex includes a football pitch, changing-room and grandstand buildings, and a multifunctional sports court. The complex also has a children’s playground.
The Štefanov carnival custom known as „Turci“ is still maintained in its original form. During the school year, the municipal library is open on Wednesdays from 2:00 p.m. to 4:00 p.m.
Transport Connections
Road II/500 connects Štefanov with Senica, as well as with Šaštín-Stráže and Dojč, and continues via Kúty and Sobotište to the Czech border. Road III/1136 connects Štefanov with Unín and Radimov and runs for 2 km through the entire built-up area of the town. Road III/1033 connects Štefanov with Letničie and also joins road II/500 between Kúty and Senica.
Cuisine
Štefanov is one of the municipalities along the Záhorie Wine Route. In the wider region around the Záhorie Wine Route, the Open Wine Cellars and Wine Sheds Day has been held annually since 2010.
