Culture and History

Svinaře Castle stands on the site of a fortress whose origins are believed to date back to the first half of the 14th century. In 1766, Antonín Maschek of Maasburg had the castle built in the farmyard, together with an extensive garden and park. Despite the ongoing reconstruction, the Svinaře castle complex offers interesting interiors and a beautiful castle park for excursions and cultural experiences.

The public Chapel of Saint Wenceslas is part of the castle’s history. It was built in 1901 to replace the Chapel of the Holy Cross in Svinaře Castle, which had burned down, and was consecrated on September 28, 1901. Svinařské posvícení also takes place on September 28.

Water and Local Life

A document from 1840 describes the healing effects of the Svinaře spring; a well and two basins are also mentioned at the site. Around 1900, a carriage came from Karlovy Vary twice a week to fill Svinaře mineral water into special bottles and transport it away.

The Žába pond is a venue for numerous social and sporting events. Hockey is played and ice skating takes place there in winter. Svinaře also has a multifunctional artificial-turf sports field suitable for ball hockey, floorball, nohejbal, volleyball, and tennis.

Location and Routes

Svinaře is located 4 km from the Prague–Beroun main railway line and can be reached from Řevnice and Zadní Třebaň by bus or on foot. The village is a popular destination for holiday-home owners, cyclists, and tourists who set out from here into the surrounding countryside.
