Rohozec is located in the Elbe Lowland between the historic towns of Kutná Hora and Čáslav. The village is home to a listed church, a historic residential building, and the nearby Empire-style Kačina Chateau, offering different facets of the region’s history.
Culture and history
The Church of St. Mary Magdalene is a protected cultural monument and has been listed since 3 May 1958. In Rohozec, it appears as a single-nave, oriented building with a square presbytery covered by a ribbed vault. The original chapel dates from the last quarter of the 13th century or from around the transition between the 13th and 14th centuries. As a filial church, St. Mary Magdalene belongs to the Roman Catholic parish of Chotusice.
One of the oldest residential buildings in Rohozec is House No. 25. It dates from around the mid-19th century; part of the log structure is concealed beneath a thick layer of limewash. The widening chimney indicates that a smokehouse was once installed there. Rohozec is also located near the Empire-style Kačina Chateau.
Events and activities
The ultralight flying club in Rohozec regularly organizes a model aircraft competition on 1 May, a traditional gathering of ultralight and other aircraft on the first Saturday in August, and an autumn kite-flying event in late October or early November.
The local sports club also takes part in events: TJ Sokol Rohozec co-organizes the Rohozecká vlaštovka and Adventní setkání. During the season, members of TJ Sokol Rohozec regularly meet with children on the new multi-purpose sports field for ball games.
Marked cycle route No. 0113 runs through Rohozec. It leads via Žehušice, Bojmany, Vlačice, Vrdy, Žleby, and Zehuby.
