The blue Podbrdský-Čtyřlístek field path, also known as the southern or Chlumec path, leads to several sights, including Velký Chlumec with the Chapel of Saint Ludmila.

Nature and Wildlife

The Záchranná stanice pro volně žijící živočichy Velký Chlumec offers guided tours of its grounds. The tours focus on individual animal patients and the protection of endangered species. The tour lasts approximately one hour and requires advance reservation.

In addition, the station offers educational programs for kindergartens, primary schools, and secondary schools. Topics range from wild animals and human-made hazards to treatment and care, and finally the return to the wild.

Landscape

Velký Chlumec is home to the protected memorial oak tree Chlumecký dub. It is estimated to be 300 years old and 25 meters tall; these figures were recorded in 2010.

The mountain Hradec is located in the immediate vicinity of Velký Chlumec. The mountains Plešivec and Velký Chlum are also nearby.

The Studený vrch lookout tower stands in the vicinity of Velký Chlumec. It was built in 1942, is 17.5 meters high, and offers views toward Prague, Karlštejn, and the Brdy ridges. From Velký Chlumec, the lookout tower can only be reached on foot or by bicycle; the car must be left in the forest before continuing the ascent on foot.

Family and Education

On June 6, 2026, Velký Chlumec hosted a Children's Day for children and their parents. The event used a 3.5-kilometer forest path between Velký Chlumec and Malý Chlumec. Along the path, there were stations with tasks about fruit and vegetables; the route was designed for children of all ages and their parents.

Culture

The churches of Svatý Jiří and Malá Svatá Hora are located in the vicinity of Velký Chlumec. Further afield in the region are Karlštejn Castle, Doutnáč Mountain, and the ruins of Týřov.
