Obědovice: Hotels and accommodation

The Obědovice fortified site is designated as a significant archaeological site in category ÚAN I, dating from the Middle Ages to the early modern period.

Culture and history

The site is approximately oval, measures 23 × 19 metres and is surrounded by a body of water measuring approximately 106 × 75 metres. Its upper surface lies about 4 metres above the water level. It contains a Neoclassical statue of Saint Lawrence, a sandstone monument to those who fell in the First and Second World Wars, and a brick bell tower. The Obědovice fortified site can be reached from the surrounding area via a 14-metre-long strip of land, which connects on its eastern side to sandstone steps set into the eastern slope.

Two former sand-extraction areas in Obědovice are used for recreation. A gradually shrinking fortified mound from the former marsh fortress has been preserved in the middle of a pond. The local theatre ensemble has remained active since its revival in 2004; the second historic fortress disappeared without a trace.

Landscape

Obědovice lies in a fertile, flat landscape. In the wider regional surroundings of Obědovice are Kamenec Mountain, the Church of Saint George and Kačina Castle. Soudný Hill [Chýšť] lies in the immediate vicinity of Obědovice. Kozí hora Hill [Klamoš] and Velký les Hill lie in the surroundings of Obědovice.
