Svatojanský Újezd: Hotels and Accommodations

Svatojanský Újezd is located in the Bělohrad Basin, three kilometers west of Lázně Bělohrad. The village combines a preserved rural structure with notable examples of architectural and settlement history.

Culture and History

The Church of Saint John the Baptist is protected as an immovable cultural monument under catalog number 1009153539; the protection has been in effect since January 2, 2006. It stands on the foundations of a wooden church dating from the second half of the 14th century. Its bell was cast in 1606 and is one of the oldest bells in the region.

A statue of Saint John the Baptist dating from 1902 stands in the village square of Svatojanský Újezd. The Liberty Linden was planted behind this statue on May 14, 1919. The medieval village of “Okrouhlice,” also known as “Okrouhlé,” stood on the site of today’s “Okrouhlík” farmstead; it is mentioned for the years 1392 and 1603. In the “Bačálky” location above the “Okrouhlík” farmstead, there was also a medieval fortress called “Okrouhlík,” built before 1592 and mentioned in 1606. Log houses have been preserved in Svatojanský Újezd as examples of folk architecture.

Villagescape and Trees

Svatojanský Újezd preserves the circular settlement structure of the original agricultural farmsteads around the village square, which is now laid out as a park. The Liberty Linden in the village square has a trunk circumference of 419 centimeters and is approximately 23 meters high. Residents gather there for the traditional event “Setkání pod lipou.”

A protected common ash stands in the northern part of the built-up area. The ash tree of Svatojanský Újezd was designated as protected by the Lázně Bělohrad municipal administration in 2004.

Landscape and Paths

A Class III road runs north–south across the village square, while a Class II road runs outside the built-up area. Existing field and forest paths connect the built-up area with the natural surroundings of Svatojanský Újezd. The marked “Cesta Karla Jaromíra Erbena” hiking trail passes through the village.

The 314-meter-high Újezdský kopec southwest of the built-up area shapes the landscape. The highest parts of Svatojanský Újezd offer significant views of the village and the surrounding landscape. The Stanislav-Rudolf Library provides free publicly accessible internet access.
