Úhlejov: Hotels and Accommodation

Úhlejov lies on the southern slope of Zvičina Hill between the Hornoúhlejovský and Dolnoúhlejovský streams. The location combines a clearly defined hilly landscape with small bodies of water and traces of history.

Nature and Waterways

The terrain in Úhlejov is undulating, slopes distinctly southwards, and is bordered by the parallel valleys of three streams. The municipality is drained by the three streams Lukaveček, Trotinka and Úhlejovský potok; the Úhlejovský potok flows into the Bystrý potok, and the stream courses are predominantly natural.

A local spring in a nearby meadow is described as one of the five sources of the Bystřice River.

Paths and Routes

A hiking trail runs beside Horní mlýn and along the northeastern edge of Castle Hill. For cyclists, cycling route 4086 leads through Hořice, Miletín, Úhlejov, Třebihošť, Zvičina, Horní Brusnice, Mostek and Debrné.

Culture and History

The Chapel of Saint John of Nepomuk in Úhlejov dates from 1816. Locals also call it the “Chapel of Saint Martin” because its gable bears a relief of this saint.

Near Úhlejov, on a rise at the confluence of the Bystrý and Hornoúhlejovský streams, stood a small castle that no longer exists. The name of the hiking event “In the Footsteps of the Knight Zbyhoň” refers to a local legend about the medieval castle complex on Castle Hill, later popularly known as Šušpárek.

In the 19th century, domestic weaving of Kalmuk, a coarse fabric with a roughened surface on both sides, was widespread in Úhlejov.
