Zdonov: Hotels and Accommodations

The Church of the Holy Trinity and its cemetery complex in Zdoňov are protected as a cultural monument of the Czech Republic. The church was first mentioned as a parish church in 1384. At the end of the 16th century, it was extensively remodeled in the Renaissance style, probably based on designs by the architect Carlo Valmadi.

Culture and History

At the northwestern edge of Zdoňov, the Baroque pilgrimage Church of the Virgin Mary stands on a hill. It is surrounded by a cemetery; its pilgrimage complex includes the Chapel of St. John of Nepomuk.

The Church of the Virgin Mary replaced a small wooden chapel in 1667 and was closed in 1786 during the Josephine reforms. Another historical landmark in the village is the restored pillory of Zdoňov, which stands by a bridge below the Church of the Holy Trinity.

Stones and Landscape

Above Zdoňov lies Kamenný kříž s druidským hájem, a stone complex made up of 13 stones. The tallest stones are 4 to 4.5 meters high. The adjacent Druid Grove consists of 12 oaks and 8 birches.

A hike from Zdoňov leads via the Druid Grove to the ruins of the Church of the Virgin Mary on Kopeček. Kamenný kříž s druidským hájem can be reached from Křížový vrch via the chapel and Svatý kopeček along a trail.

The hiking route through Zdoňov passes through Hrnčířské údolí and by the Zdoňovské menhiry, an art project dedicated to wildlife. Each stone of the Zdoňovské menhiry is dedicated to a different animal and represents a different power or element.

The Křížový vrch viewpoint is located in the vicinity of Zdoňov. It is accessible year-round and lies outside the fee-based tour of the Adršpašské skály. The Křížová cesta nature reserve is a rock city on Křížový vrch where protected birds, including peregrine falcons, breed.

Cycling Routes and the Border

The Teplice nad Metují–Zdoňov/Loděnice–Mieroszów–Meziměstí–Vernéřovice–Teplice nad Metují cycling loop leads from Teplice nad Metují via the red cycle route 4036 to Zdoňov and then via route 4020 to Meziměstí. The loop is 25 km long and has a moderate difficulty level.

The route from Buková hora follows a cycle path to the border crossing and continues into the border village of Zdoňov, through the village center to the church. The Zdoňov–Łączna border crossing can be used for visits to Poland.

Agriculture and Cuisine

Biofarma Zdoňov organizes agricultural weekends, work weeks, and educational excursions for kindergartens. The Kovářova kobyla restaurant in Zdoňov serves seasonal dishes made from regional ingredients.
