Biřkov: Hotels and Accommodation
Culture and History
The burial mound necropolis in Zderaz Forest, also called Na Zderaze, is located in the cadastral area of Biřkov, southwest of the municipality’s reservoir. It is classified as ÚAN I and designated as a significant archaeological site.
During the re-identification of the burial mound necropolis in Zderaz Forest, 46 objects were identified; however, it has not been fully confirmed that all of them should be interpreted as burial mounds. Larger burial mounds reach approximately 2 m in height and have a diameter of 12–15 m.
A pond at the former Biřkov fortress supplied its moat with water. The still-visible moat of the former fortress lies beneath the road to Vřeskovice; the area is still called Na Tvrzi.
In the wider regional surroundings of Biřkov is the church “Plzen Barholomaeus Cathedral”. In Biřkov itself, the Chapel of Saint John of Nepomuk dates from the late 18th century.
