Mezihoří: Hotels and Accommodations

Mezihoří was first mentioned in writing in 1548. On the outskirts of the village lies Panský rybník, which covers almost 6 hectares; nearby is Tuhošť, a conical peak of volcanic origin.

Culture and History

Mezihoří is home to the Chapel of Our Lady of Klatovy. The chapel dates from 1775 and was repaired and reconstructed in 1993. Its portico has a triangular pediment supported by two simple columns. It is sometimes incorrectly referred to as the Chapel of St. Wenceslas. The traditional local pilgrimage in Mezihoří takes place on September 28, the feast of St. Wenceslas.

Mezihoří is also associated with Alois Jirásek’s historical story “Z Čech až na konec světa” (“From Bohemia to the End of the World”), as the landed nobleman Václav Šašek of Mezihoří lived here in his fortress.

Ponds and Film History

The dam of Panský rybník served as a filming location for the Czech fairy-tale comedy film “Three Wishes for Cinderella,” including the scene in which the sleigh carrying the stepmother and her stepdaughter plunges into the pond. Mezihořský rybník is a stop on the “Po stopách Popelky” (“In Cinderella’s Footsteps”) educational trail. From the tourist signpost in Mezihoří, it can be reached via the green-marked trail and then a field path, over a total distance of approximately 350 meters.

Nature and Trails

Near Mezihoří, the Běleč Nature Reserve protects predominantly original mixed woodland. It provides a habitat for many animal species, including black storks and Eurasian sparrowhawks. From Mezihoří, a woodland walk follows the yellow-marked hiking trail to Běleč. A traditional hike to Běleč takes place at New Year.

Tuhošť and Žlutá ruka

Near Mezihoří, the Žlutá ruka climbing area lies 700 meters east of Mezihoří at the foot of Tuhošť. It features a rock formation approximately ten meters high, with predominantly smooth, sloping slabs, fixed protection, and top-rope and rappel anchors. Near Mezihoří, Žlutá ruka can be reached by bus from the Mezihoří stop.

The same wider area also includes Klenová, Ujčín, Dobršín, Komušín, Chanovice, Hejná, Čímice and Lukoviste.
