Malý Bor: Hotels and Accommodations

Malý Bor lies west of Horažďovice in a gently rolling landscape, in the broad valley of the Mlýnský potok. Historically, the village developed in two parts: the village center lies on a southern slope above the stream, while the second part of the village on the other side of the stream is called Kuchyňka.

History

A bronze hoard found in Malý Bor in 1902 is partially preserved in the Horažďovice Museum. A historic trade route also shaped the village’s regional significance: the route from Bavaria via Železná Ruda and Klatovy divided in the region; one branch led via Malý Bor and nearby Prácheň to České Budějovice.

On October 12, 1420, Jan Žižka conquered and burned down the fortress of Malý Bor. At the western end of the village, remains of the former fortification with traces of the moat are visible.

Culture

The Church of St. Mary Magdalene stands on a slight rise in Malý Bor. It was probably built between 1200 and 1225.

On the southern side of its tower, the church preserves two medieval figural wall paintings depicting archers. It also contains a medieval stone baptismal font.

In Kuchyňka, the Chapel of St. John of Nepomuk is one of the culturally and historically significant sites of Malý Bor. The parish in Malý Bor preserves a late Gothic portal in its enclosing wall. The architectural heritage also includes the masonry farmhouse No. 17 with a historic black kitchen.

Nature and Trails

Mount Buzrakov (Plánický hřeben) lies in the vicinity of Malý Bor. In the wider regional surroundings of the village are Mount Svatobor, the ruins of the Radomysl Mediumwave Radio Mast, Mount Sedlo [Sušice-Albrechtice], and Mount Vysoký.

Malý Bor is one of the municipalities along the Otavská cycle path.
