Prostiboř: Hotels and Accommodation

Prostiboř combines protected village architecture with religious buildings and the history of Kopec. The local history is made visible through architectural forms, ecclesiastical details, and a traditional path through nature.

Culture and Villagescape

The Prostiboř Village Heritage Conservation Zone includes masonry architecture from the late 19th century. Its defining features include façades with rustication, half-storey attics, and numerous openings in the gables.

A distinctive feature is the Chapel of Saint John of Nepomuk. It was built in 1867 by residents of the municipality on the site of an earlier small chapel. The present chapel is a masonry building in the Neo-Romanesque style, with a rectangular floor plan and a three-sided apse. Since 1993, Mass has been celebrated there on 16 May, the feast of Saint John of Nepomuk.

The Church of Saint Nicholas also preserves several historical layers: the Gothic church was remodelled in the Baroque style in the nave, while the tower was added between 1753 and 1756. The furnishings also include a bell from 1551 with a Czech inscription.

History of Prostiboř and Kopec

Prostiboř is first mentioned in the founding charter of Kladruby Monastery. A castle existed above the village from the 14th century; in the 18th century, it was rebuilt as a multi-storey château.

Kopec Château is currently closed due to renovation work. The complex is also known as Prostiboř Château.

Nature and Trails

Two protected small-leaved linden trees, approximately 22 metres tall, stand above the Chapel of Saint John of Nepomuk.

The northern route of the Way of St. James passes through Prostiboř. It leads from Kladruby via Prostiboř and Hostouň to Bělá nad Radbuzou.

Those visiting Prostiboř Château, also known as Kopec, first walk through undisturbed nature near Sedmihoří.
