Blšany: Hotels and Accommodation
The single-nave Baroque Church of St. Michael the Archangel in Blšany was built between 1716 and 1717. It acquired its present appearance through extensive reconstruction in 1825.
Culture
A tower was added to the south wall of the Church of St. Michael the Archangel in Blšany in 1762. To the east of the church stands the two-storey Baroque vicarage, built in 1734. In front of the vicarage on the village square is a Baroque sculpture of St. John of Nepomuk with two angels, dating from 1735.
On a hill north of Blšany, a remnant of the 17th-century Chapel of St. Wenceslas has been preserved. At the eastern edge of the village, a niche chapel is built into the gable wall of single-storey house No. 113 on the road to Soběchleby. It contains a figure of St. Anthony of Padua holding the Infant Jesus.
The brick niche chapel of St. Wenceslas stands at the intersection of the Blšany–Žatec and Liběšice–Letov roads. Its shallow niche contains a figurative relief of St. Wenceslas on horseback.
History
The medieval village of Nevechovice was located in the vicinity of the St. Wenceslas site; its origins have been archaeologically documented as early as the 9th to 10th centuries. The St. Wenceslas site in the vicinity of Blšany has a pilgrimage tradition documented since the 14th century and is considered one of the oldest pilgrimage sites associated with St. Wenceslas.
The war memorial in Blšany was erected in 1947 primarily in memory of the victims of the Second World War, including three local residents named individually. At the same time, it commemorates residents who did not return from the battlefields of the First World War. Because of its very poor technical condition, the memorial was completely dismantled, including its foundations; the original inscription plaque was to be preserved during its renewal.
