Krahule Hotels: Winter Sports, Views and Local History

Krahule combines winter sports, views, trails and local history. At its heart is the STRED EURÓPY visitor centre, which is available to visitors all year round directly beside the valley station of the ski lifts. This connection to the locality is complemented by marked walking trails, routes to Skalka and a history dating back to the 14th century.

Nature

The walk to the Krahulský štít lookout tower is suitable for all age groups and is signposted along its entire length. Those who continue along the path without taking a turn towards the lookout point will reach Krahule. From the lookout tower, there are views over the town of Kremnica and, in the background, across the entire Žiarska Basin. Thus, this route focuses not only on the trail itself, but also on two clearly named landscape features: the town of Kremnica and the basin behind it.

Winter

The Ski Krahule ski resort has a four-seat chairlift and four ski lifts. There is also a 5 km-long cross-country ski trail near the resort, which is prepared for both classic-style skiing and skating as needed. The cross-country route from Krahule to Skalka is extensively groomed and is used not only by cross-country skiers, but also by sledders and pedestrians for winter and summer tourism.

Skalka can be reached from Krahule on cross-country skis, starting at the ski lifts and passing via Predné pláne and Zadné diely. This connection names both the starting point at the ski lifts and the two sections, Predné pláne and Zadné diely, before Skalka is reached.

Trails

The “Krahule – Salka Via ferraty” route is a 4.5 km-long trail that takes approximately two hours and has a low difficulty level. It is suitable for hiking, cycling and ski mountaineering. The route begins at the Krahule ski slope and continues along a well-maintained forest road with a moderate incline to Skalka.

The Kremnica – Krahule – Skalka – Kremnica route is also designated for cycling. It connects Kremnica, Krahule and Skalka and runs through the Kremnica Mountains.

Culture

Krahule – Blaufuss is an originally German settlement of woodcutters, charcoal burners and miners dating from the 14th century. The local architectural history includes the Church of Saint John of Nepomuk in Krahule, a Baroque-Classical church built in 1806.

Krahule was also a centre of lace-making. In 1895, a state bobbin-lace workshop was founded there to provide instruction and facilitate the sale of bobbin lace. Alongside the settlement’s history and the church, this craft is therefore also part of the local heritage.
