Lišov: Masks, Wine and a 24-km Cycling Route

Lišov reveals its character through unusual cultural sites, craft-oriented buildings, wine architecture and a route through the surrounding area. The Galéria masiek displays more than 400 masks from around the world. Its collection includes African, Asian, modern European, American and local masks. The Keltské obydlie offers a completely different insight into local building and craft traditions.

Culture

The Keltské obydlie is made of wood. The walls are woven from hazel rods and plastered with clay; the building was constructed without a single nail. It was built by exchange students from England, Romania and Germany during their stay in Lišov. The Keltské obydlie can be visited as an example of traditional skills and working with natural materials.

The Lišovská izba is a small ethnographic museum. Visitors can see and try out traditional work and crafts there. The Stodola Fera Liptáka also offers an insight into local culture: it is located in a house with preserved traditional architecture, where exhibitions are held. The Stodola can be visited by prior arrangement.

Wine

The Vínne chyžky in Lišov include around 300 wine-growing cottages and hand-hewn cellars. The cellars were carved directly into volcanic tuff. The local wine tradition also includes Koštovka, a competition for the best Lišov wine, held every spring since 1994.

Nature

The 24-km Lišovská cycling route leads from Dudince to the Tesárska gorge, through Lišov and back to Dudince. The meanders of the Lišovský potok can be seen along the Lišovská cycling route.

Hbôl - perisko, a lightly mineralised spring that does not freeze in winter, is located in the lower part of Lišov. The distinctive landscape and cultural features also include stone dwellings. They comprise small rooms and large halls carved into cavities and caves in sandstone and tuff.

History

The stone dwellings probably date from the period of the Turkish invasions and served as refuges for local residents. The Protestant church also points to a long local history: it is said to have been built in 1590. The current organ of the Protestant church in Lišov dates from 1922.

On Site

The Lišov Regional Information Point is located in a renovated house dating from 1887 and serves as an information centre and café. In this way, different forms of staying in Lišov coexist as part of the townscape: a large mask collection, ethnographic and architectural evidence, wine-growing cottages, a spring and a route through the landscape.
