Hotel in Tomášovce – History, Landscape and Trails

Tomášovce was first mentioned in a document issued by Béla IV in Zvolen on 3 August 1247. Today, the town lies in the northern part of the Lučenec Basin, mostly on the right side of the Krivánsky Stream. Its municipal area ranges from flat to hilly and lies between 200 and 330 metres above sea level. Thus, Tomášovce brings together a clearly defined landscape and a long history of settlement.

History

At the beginning of the 18th century, Matej Bel described Tomášovce as a wealthy and prosperous village belonging to Count Zichy and the Semerovci noble family. Historical local crafts included pottery and pipe-making; alongside these activities, residents cultivated their fields. Tomášovce were predominantly owned by the estates of Divín and Halič. The building of the Protestant school also points to the town's early past: it dates from 1622.

Several visible landmarks are connected with both more recent and older commemorative traditions. In Tomášovce, a memorial plaque commemorates the local pastor Daniel Mazárius; it was unveiled on the occasion of the 250th anniversary of his martyrdom. Another memorial plaque commemorates the victims of the First World War. The Protestant church was consecrated on 30 September 1995 and stands essentially on the site of an older church that was destroyed on 20 January 1945.

Landscape and Nature

The municipality's topography ranges from flat sections to hilly areas. The elevation between 200 and 330 metres above sea level is as much a part of the townscape as its location in the northern Lučenec Basin and its predominantly westward extent on the right side of the Krivánsky Stream. The area around Tomášovce is home to forest, field and water game, as well as fish.

Routes and Events

Named events also bring the town's history and landscape into the public sphere. In the “Beh oslobodenia” on 13 May 2023, a 23-kilometre relay race ran from Budiná through Divín, Ružiná, Podrečany and Gregorova Vieska to Tomášovce. The walk “Pochod po zrušenej železničnej trati” was also planned in Tomášovce for 25 April 2026, following the former Veľká Ves–Vidiná–Tomášovce railway line. The date therefore explicitly referred to a former railway line, not to a currently operating connection.

Public Transport

From 1 June 2026, more frequent service was scheduled to be introduced for public transport in Tomášovce, in the Lučenec District, on bus route 480. This time-specific plan adds another perspective on the development of transport services to the aforementioned event dates.
