Tuhár: Discover Hotels, Nature and Culture

In Tuhár, the publicly accessible Tuhár viewing pavilion offers beautiful views of the surrounding area. The pavilion is located 100 m from an intersection of cycling and hiking trails. In its vicinity, there is a newly built shelter with bicycle stands and a solar charging station where two e-bikes and a mobile phone can be charged. This combines views with practical facilities for people stopping here along the way.

Nature

In the eastern part of the cadastral territory of Tuhár, Mesozoic limestone predominates, with a thickness of up to 12 m. High-quality Tuhár marble and granodiorite are quarried in this area. Among the site's distinctive natural formations is the 14 m-high andesite Bralo, located in Tuhár. The Morháčova Cave, which is 14 m long, is also located in Tuhár.

The forests are also characterized by a specific mixture of different tree species. Tuhár has mixed forests containing beech, oak, pine and spruce. There are also protected lime trees, a black pine and a European beech with a trunk circumference of 490 cm. Thus, the municipality's territory contains a range of geological and forest elements side by side, from the quarried limestone to the specially described trees.

Culture and History

The Roman Catholic Church of Saint Charles Borromeo in Tuhár was built between 1836 and 1841 as a single-nave church with a polygonal-ended presbytery and an attached tower. The church also contains an original Renaissance bell dating from 1648–1649. The architecture and furnishings therefore belong to different periods that come together in the same building.

Another cultural site is the Ľudová pamätná izba folk memorial room. It was established in 2016 on the first floor of the municipal office in Tuhár. There, it displays photographs, paintings, looms, spinning wheels, a sewing machine and a copy of a village map from the 19th century. The collection thus ranges from visual representations to equipment used in craftwork and domestic life.

Tuhár's former market history has also been recorded: since the late 17th century, Tuhár, as a market town, had the right to hold four annual fairs and a weekly Monday market. There is also a chapel carved into the rock near the marble quarry, bearing the inscription „Ave Maria“ and figures. The marble quarry thus appears not only as a site of stone extraction, but also as the setting for a small religious building.

Things to Do

The Tuhár–Bralo educational hiking trail leads directly to Jaskyňa pod Bralcami. It is a self-guided, linear footpath that can be walked in both directions and used year-round. It also runs parallel to the green hiking trail marking. The route is therefore clearly described by its layout, the possible direction of travel, its year-round usability and its trail marking.

A separate annual event is the „Karolovský výstup na Bralo a Bralce“, held every year at the beginning of November. In addition to the year-round educational hiking trail, Tuhár's calendar therefore also includes a regularly recurring event.
