Discover Kráľ: History and Culture

Kráľ lies in the southeast of the Rimavská kotlina Basin, in the valley of a left-bank tributary of the Slaná. This location connects the village with the landscape of the basin and the Slaná river valley.

History

The first written mention of Kráľ dates back to 1282. During the Turkish wars, Kráľ was completely depopulated in 1680. The village was resettled in the 18th century. This sequence marks three clearly distinguishable points in the local history: the medieval mention, the profound disruption of the 17th century and the subsequent reconstruction in the following century.

Religious Building and Manor House

The Evangelical church is part of the more recent history of religious construction. Its foundation stone was laid in Kráľ in 1969. It was consecrated and opened for use on 17 September 1972. Both dates mark the construction and subsequent completion of the church building.

A notable architectural monument is the Baroque-Classical manor house in Kráľ. It dates from 1767 and was built on older foundations. The building therefore has both a clearly dated Baroque-Classical period of construction and an earlier structural history.

The manor house is a two-storey, basement building with a U-shaped floor plan. The right wing contains the Chapel of Saint Ladislaus, founded in 1753. The chapel is therefore part of a specific section of the manor house while also having its own foundation date.

The façade of the manor house facing the park features a portico and a balcony. These two architectural elements consequently define the building’s exterior appearance on the park side.

Community Life

Kráľ has a cultural centre, a public library and a stadium. They complement the historic buildings with places for culture, community use and sport.

A specific culinary connection can be seen in a group activity held on 8 February 2024. Traditional homemade noodles were made in Kráľ on that day. The participants prepared Gágoríky and were then allowed to take them home.

Football is also represented in the village. TJ Družstevník Kráľ has an adult football team. There is also an U15 older-youth football team there. Both teams are therefore part of local club life, but they differ by age group.
