Rimavská Baňa – Hotel, Gothic Route and Vŕšok Observation Tower

Above Rimavská Baňa stands an early Gothic, single-nave church built around 1300 and surrounded by a Renaissance defensive wall. The village lies on the thematic Gothic Route. It connects medieval churches with rare wall paintings; these include the 13th-century Gothic church in Rimavská Baňa. Together with 11 other sacred monuments in the Gemer-Malohont region, it is one of the bearers of the “European Cultural Heritage” seal.

Culture

The interior of the church in Rimavská Baňa contains medieval wall paintings from the 14th century depicting the so-called Legend of Saint Ladislaus. There is also a painted coffered ceiling dating from 1783. Thus, different periods meet in a single building, from its early Gothic construction through the medieval visual world to the design of the 18th century.

Educational Trail and History

The SNP – Bojisko Rimavská Baňa educational trail is approximately 4.5 kilometres long. In terms of content, the educational trail presents the battles that took place there at the end of 1944 between insurgents and German units.
